2019 FESTIVAL THEME
I Spy With My Wild Eye...
From May 21-26 we are spending some quality time with our wild neighbours. Whether in your backyard or along the Meewasin Valley trails, Saskatoon is bursting with life. Crocuses welcome the spring’s first bees -- foxes give birth to their pups – birds return in a rush -- and we are glad to have companionship.
This year we are grabbing our binoculars, hand lenses, and cell phones to bring you a celebration of citizen science! By recording your observations, you can map the wild side of Saskatoon and contribute knowledge we need to create a nature-friendly city.
It’s Easy! It’s Fun! It’s Important!
Join us at one of +60 events hosted by +50 organizations and see what you will spy around the wilds of Saskatoon! The city just might be wilder than you ever imagined!
“NO NEED FOR A LAB COAT OR A PHD. EVERYONE CAN CONTRIBUTE WHAT THEY SEE AND KNOW. THAT’S THE MAGIC OF CITIZEN SCIENCE.”
- Kenton Lysak, Meewasin
What is citizen science?
Citizen science harnesses the observational powers of “regular” people to create knowledge that helps us live respectfully with our wild neighbours.
How can I get involved?
By downloading iNaturalist onto your cell phone and using it to record your observations. Or by sitting at home and browsing through trail-cam photos from Saskatoon (or elsewhere) on Zooniverse.
